Machete Mandala 2016

Machete Mandala, is a series of acrylic paintings inspired on the common “machete” used in Puerto Rico to cut sugar cane, banana plants, high grass, among other things, it is also a symbol of the never ending fight for independence. Puerto Rico is since 1898 a Colony of the USA. Other forms of cultural imagery, like tacones (high heels), maga flowers and garitas resonate with the distressed politics of colonialism.
